Consortium of South Eastern Law Libraries Funding Special Projects: Guidelines

Recognizing that the library profession often derives benefits from cooperative educational ventures, COSELL will fund a limited number of projects to promote this goal. The following guidelines provide general guidance for those institutions and/or ind ividuals who wish to apply for these grants.

GUIDELINES

The COSELL Board will consider
1. The general benefits derived by COSELL libraries in particular and by law libraries in general by particular venture;
2. The number of institutions involved in the project, including geographical location and types of law libraries;
3. The time frame of the project, including date if any.
4. Examples of projects include WEB pages of various sorts, librarian exchanges; and cooperative meetings.

APPLICATION

1. Cover letter: The cover letter should request funding in a specific amount and include those organizations participating in the project and should address in general terms why COSELL should fund this particular project.
2. Narrative: A separate general narrative page should include the following:
a. Description: A detailed description of the purpose of the grant, including (1) statement of needs/problems to be addressed; description of target population and how they will benefit; (2) description of project goals and objectives (measurable, if possib le) and statement as to whether this is a new or ongoing program; (3) plans to accomplish goals and objectives; (4) timetable for implementation, if applicable; (5) other organizations, if any, participating in the project and their roles; (6) list of nam es and qualifications of those responsible for the project; and (7) long-term strategies for funding of this project at end of the grant period.
b. Evaluation: Plans for evaluation, including how success will be defined and measured.
3. Finances
a. Project budget, if applicable. (See Budget section below.)
b. List amounts requested or supplied from other funding sources.
4. Attachments
a. List of project coordinators and responsibilities.
b. Letter of support (maximum of 4).
c. Other relevant materials (articles, etc.) which support the application.
BUDGET

A budget should be attached to the application and should include:

1. Time period covered by the budget.
2. Expenses: Include a description and the total amount for each of the relevant expense categories.
    -Salaries -Travel
    -Equipment -Supplies; printing and copying; telephone; postage
    -Utilities  
    -Other  
3. Other Revenue
4. Total Revenue
5. In-kind Support (including volunteers)
